United embracing community through their Grassroots Game

Melbourne United will celebrate the city's amazing local basketball community on Sunday when they hold their Grassroots Game at 4pm at John Cain Arena.

Always looking to support and champion basketball at the grassroots level throughout Melbourne, United will look to shine a spotlight on the clubs and associations that are working hard to develop the next generation of Australian ballers.

Featuring an exclusive player signing session for fans who come to the game in their local club/association jersey, United are expecting a near sellout for the blockbuster clash with Sydney.

Having grown up playing junior basketball in Melbourne, Development Player Josh Duach touched on the importance of having events like the Grassroots Game for inspiring young athletes falling in love with the game.

“It’s huge to involve the kids at a young age because that’s how you get them really passionate,” he said on a visit back to his junior club, the Kilsyth Cobras.

“I feel like the direction Australian basketball is going in, there’s a lot more exposure, so it’s our job to make sure the kids are ready for that.

“I just feel like it’s really good to try and pay it forward. I remember when I was younger the older guys that had made it to the NBL from this club would come back here and talk to us about what it takes and now it’s my job to pay it forward to the next group coming up.”
