United prepared to stand up against desperate opposition

With four rounds remaining in the NBL24 regular season, Melbourne United are prepared to fight tooth and nail to secure a top-two position on the competition ladder.

This will however be no easy task, as the team’s final six games will come against teams on the fringe of the playoffs, needing to tally as many wins as possible.

After going down to Tasmania on Friday evening, United will next face a road-double header against the Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Kings in Round 17.

Speaking following Friday’s game, Head Coach Dean Vickerman touched on how his side needs to respond ahead of their next two games.

“We’re playing these teams that are fighting for a playoff spot,” he said.

“We’ve got a desperate Brisbane and a desperate Sydney on a double-game road trip. We’ll see what team we put on the floor but I expect our rebounding to be a lot better than what it was and I expect our coverage guarding the three-ball to be better.”

Despite tallying 11 points and eight assists, Matthew Dellavedova vowed to continue improving alongside his teammates across the final stretch of the season in hopes of locking up home-court advantage in the playoffs.

“It’s never good to lose, you always obviously want to be winning,” he said.

“All throughout the season it’s been about trying to improve game to game whether we win or lose. We’ve got a lot of competitive people, the team, coaching staff, the whole club, we’ll go back and get ready for next week.”

United will face the Bullets on Friday from 7:30pm before matching up with the Kings on Sunday from 4pm.
