Over the years, Joy Media has helped provide a voice within the Pride space

For over 30 years, JOY 94.9 has worked in some form to provide a voice for the LGBTIQA+ community.

Now, we at Melbourne United are thrilled to be welcoming the team from JOY Media into John Cain Arena to produce a live broadcast previewing our Champion NBL Pride Round Game against the Tasmania JackJumpers.

Hosted by Jacqueline Shields, the show will feature conversations about inclusion within sport with a collection of guests including Dannii Minogue, Joel Creasy, Brad Newley and many more.

Fans can tune in at 94.9 FM from 6pm.

Ahead of the broadcast, Joy Media CEO Con Keramitsis touched on his excitement, as well as the importance of welcoming Melbourne United’s stars into their studios over the past few weeks.

“I am thrilled that we're broadcasting live from John Cain Area before tip-off, sharing a powerful message of inclusiveness and the importance of creating welcoming spaces in sport for everyone, regardless of identity or background,” they said.

“It's been an absolute pleasure to welcome Nick Truelson, Dean Vickerman, Tom van de Vusse and Tanner Krebs to the JOY 94.9 studios and airwaves at the Victorian Pride Centre in the lead up to the game.

“More than ever active allyship in sport is vital for the LGBTIQA+ community and it's wonderful to be able to come together and celebrate inclusion and diversity with the support of Melbourne United, Champion and the NBL.”

Having first started broadcasting intermittently in the early 1990’s, Joy 94.9 is powered by 200+ volunteers and led by a small leadership team with the aim to inform, empower, entertain audiences globally by delivering quality community media, every hour, every day of the year.
