Melbourne United is excited to reveal the latest edition of the club’s Multicultural Uniforms, which the team will debut on Sunday 19 October against the New Zealand Breakers inside of John Cain Arena.
An evolution of previous designs, this season’s iteration features a collage of flags from across the globe down the side of the jersey and shorts, paying homage to the different cultures and countries represented across our history, and our city.
Surrounding this on the front and back of both the shorts and jerseys is linework visualising the fabric of Melbourne; a pattern intertwining our club to those around us which provides us with strength each time we take to the court.
At the bottom left of each uniform, the wordmark ‘END RACISM’ is featured. We have a responsibility to use our platform to showcase and celebrate the power and strength of Melbourne’s diversity and multiculturalism, and it is our hope that this message and this uniform helps do that.
As has been the case across the past number of years, the flag or flags of each player’s nation will also sit above their name on the back of the jersey.
Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson touched on how meaningful it is for the team to don these uniforms once again.
“At United, one of our key values is inclusiveness, and through these uniforms we believe we are living that,” he explained.
“It is incredibly meaningful to us as an organisation to wear these uniforms each season so that we can best represent the diversity of Melbourne.
“Having done this for six seasons now, we feel a responsibility to champion the amazing multiculturalism in our community, and we feel as through our Multicultural Uniforms, and The Multicultural Game helps achieve that.”
This marks the club’s sixth edition of the Multicultural Uniform having first started in 2020-21. The jerseys are available for purchase now via the Melbourne United shop.
Fans can tune in to see their favourite stars wear these uniforms during The Multicultural Game on 19 October.
The entire gameday will be a celebration of the diversity of Melbourne, and will feature a free Multicultural Festival outside of the arena from 12:30pm.
