United to celebrate junior hoops once again at annual Grassroots Game

Basketball is Australia’s fastest growing sport. Last year it was crowned the most participated in sport in schools across Victoria, and is the third most participated in sport in the country.

This is due to the hard work of those at local clubs and grassroots programs, whose dedication to building a strong community in sport has benefited countless people in their athletic and social aspirations.

Behind every Joe Ingles, Luke Travers or Fabijan Krslovic, is a lineage of local teams and coaches that encouraged and cultivated their love of basketball, whilst guiding them through what it takes to work hard in all aspects of life.

On Sunday the 18th of October, Melbourne United is celebrating these clubs who keep basketball thriving in this city, through the club’s annual Grassroots Game against the Illawarra Hawks inside John Cain Arena.

Individuals and Clubs across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria will be able to share the joy of the sport they love before, during and after the game, with a series of special events and activities.

Already, 181 Moorabbin Tigers and 151 Watsonia Warriors will be repping their team colours in the stands for the game, showing love for United, and Victorian basketball as a whole.

Clubs like these will be able to fill out whole sections inside John Cain in their own team’s jerseys and experience the benefits of booking as a community. These benefits include discounted ticket prices and an exclusive jersey signing event for junior hoopers post-game, with the stars of Melbourne United.

There’s nothing we love more than what hoops can bring to our communities and sharing the passion we all have for the sport.
