The initiative delivered a total of 4,525 meals, which are already on the road to Australians facing hardship

Melbourne United, alongside major partner Trojan Tools, joined forces with Plantfulness and FareShare to support Australians in need with nutritious meals through the Points for Plates initiative.

Throughout the NBL25 season, every point United scored equalled one plate donated by Trojan Tools. Finals points boosted the tally to 3,532 meals – and on Monday 8 September, United players, coaches and staff swapped basketballs for aprons to cook those meals at FareShare Abbotsford Kitchen.

Together with Trojan, the group went beyond the target, preparing 4,525 fresh, nutritious meals that are now being delivered through FareShare’s network of food relief charities. Exceeding the goal was considered a major win and has inspired the group to aim for even greater impact in NBL26.

Melbourne United CEO Nick Truelson said the initiative brought extra meaning to every game.

“It makes every point we score mean a little bit more knowing it’s making a difference on a bigger scale. With so many Australians struggling due to cost-of-living pressures, we’re proud to support FareShare alongside Trojan and Plantfulness.”

Trojan Tools Brand & Sponsorship Manager Genevieve Bolzon added:

“Trading in our tools for aprons was a powerful way to make a real difference. Partnering with Melbourne United, Plantfulness and FareShare to prepare thousands of meals highlighted the impact we can achieve when we come together for community.

“We’re proud of what Points for Plates delivered this season and are excited to build on that momentum in NBL26, extending our impact even further and continuing to give back to local communities.”

FareShare CEO Daniel Moorfield said the support came at a critical time.

“At FareShare our mission is to cook delicious and nutritious meals for people in need – using ingredients that have been rescued, donated and grown in our gardens.

We distribute these meals for free to our charity partners – who give them out to people facing food insecurity. In the last year we distributed more than 2.8 million FareShare meals.

The meals cooked by our friends at Melbourne United, Trojan Tools and Plantfulness will be distributed through food relief programs run by frontline charities. These meals will make a real difference to people doing it tough and struggling to put food on the table.”
