Win every day: Chance outlines his goals for the Blitz

Two days out from our first NBL Blitz game, Head Coach Jacob Chance has provided some insight into what he’s looking to see from his group while in Bendigo.

With contests against the Perth Wildcats (Friday - 8pm) and the Illawarra Hawks (Sunday - 2:30pm), Chance is eager to see how the team’s standards hold up against strong opposition.

“One of the things we’ve been preaching since the start of the preseason has just been to just to win every day, and part of that comes back to trying to build our identity and our principles of play that we want to adhere to,” he explained. 

“Our mindset has been how quickly we can all get on the same page from a language and identity and a process standpoint.
I'm really happy with the flow of our daily process and how guys are integrating into how we want to play. 

“I don't think that changes at the Blitz. I think now we're just adding the kind of external or extrinsic motivator of the results of games and now we get an opportunity to go and see where we stack up against other teams and see how we deal with being up in a quarter or being down in a quarter. 

“It’s really just doubling down on what we've been doing over the last month.”

Having seen his group play in three preseason games so far; which have all been coached by his assistants, Chance said he is pleased with how the defence has looked.

On the offensive end, the versatility and optionality of what his group has been able to create has also been strong, while still leaving room for improvement.

“I've really enjoyed our defensive identity. I think we've put a lot of work into it, getting on the same page from a language standpoint, the kind of things we're willing to live with defensively and how we structure up on that end. 

“I think offensively you've seen, we've still got some things to work out and a lot of that is coming down to different players and personnel. 

“The pleasing thing for me is like, uh, we think we're a team that offensively will be able to win in different ways on different nights and our versatility is a strength and just making sure we're continuing to iron out those little things that probably lead to turnovers or poor shots at times 

“I'm happy with where we’re at as a starting point.
We’ve got a good defensive identity and hope that holds us in good stead as we keep developing the offensive side of the ball.”
