‘Aggressive’ United prepared for any scenario

With less than five days between now and United’s do-or-die final regular season game against the Adelaide 36ers, Head Coach Dean Vickerman said his side is prepared to do whatever is needed to make the postseason.

As outlined earlier in the week, there are a number of scenarios that could see United advance into the playoffs.

Speaking on SEN 1116 this morning, Vickerman said it’s a simple proposition as a coach; win the game by as much as they need to.

“The scenarios are quite wild to make the top six,” he said.

“It’s a pretty simple one as the coach of this team, we have to win, and we’ll either have to win by 10+ or 40+. We’ll bring a real aggressive kind of attitude to the week about how we approach this game.

“As we approach practice today, we’re going to have to practice two scenarios: One where we can be a little more conservative where we just have to win the game by 10 points or so and then there has to be a super aggressive way of playing that we have to practice where we just say ‘hey, we’re just going for it and we need to try and win this game by 40’.”

Heading into their sold-out return to John Cain Arena, Vickerman said he is confident the crowd will provide Melbourne with the boost needed to secure the victory by whatever margin is needed.

 “It’s been sold out for a couple of weeks, there's been a lot of people hitting my phone up over the last couple of days trying to get tickets,” he laughed.

“That’s what we want, we miss all of January with the tennis and people saw us have some pretty good performances and want to get to this last game and hopefully cheer us on to win by the margin we need to to make the playoffs.”
