Malith Machar joins United as Development Player

Melbourne United is excited to announce the signing of promising young Australian forward Malith Machar as a Development Player.

Machar, 23, will join the team on a two-year deal.

Most recently Machar has been playing in NBL1 Central for the Forestville Eagles where he has averaged over 15 points and seven rebounds while knocking down 45% of his three-pointers so far this season for the Eagles.

Speaking to MU Media, Machar said he can’t wait to enter United’s elite development system and help the side through another hopefully successful campaign.

“I’m really excited to be heading to the best club in the NBL,” he said.

“I know they can help me take my game to the next level, because now that I’m here, I’m still not satisfied, I want to keep getting better.

“I want to do whatever I can to help this team win, because winning is the most important thing.”

Having watched Machar’s development closely over the offseason, Head Coach Dean Vickerman said he’s been impressed by his growth, and believes the forward can contribute right away.

“We saw Malith early in the offseason and were really impressed.

“We gave him some things to work on and to the credit of himself, Forestville and RashaHd Tucker, who we know has been working with him day in and day out, he’s gotten better at everything we asked.

“At 6’6 he’s a long, versatile athlete that can play at a high tempo, defend multiple positions and shoot the ball well from beyond the arc. I can’t wait to get him back in Melbourne and continue to see just how much he can do for us.”

Machar fills United’s third Development Player spot, joining Zac Triplett and Joshua Duach.

His signing comes on the heels of a huge few weeks of player movement for United, which has seen superstar talent such as Rayjon Tucker, Jordan Caroline, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, Isaac Humphries and Makuach Maluach join last year's minor premiers.

Featuring NBA level talent all over the court, as well as a collection for former and current Boomers and Tall Blacks players, United is quickly amassing one of the most impressive playing groups in recent NBL history.

With the hype beginning to build for the upcoming season, Melbourne United Memberships are selling fast, with some categories already sold out.

Melbourne United Memberships are the best and most affordable way for fans to watch the NBL and be part of their favourite club, so now is the TIME TO UNITE!
