For Melbourne United star recruit Luke Travers, ensuring he can perform at the highest level was paramount when choosing where he wanted to play this season.
Coming off another successful year in Perth and with the Cleveland Cavaliers wanting to see more from him at the NBL level, searching for which team could surround him with the best talent, while letting him expand his game proved to be easy, with United ticking all the boxes.
Speaking on The Extra Pass podcast, Travers expanded on his decision.

“Dean (Vickerman) is obviously someone that built that reputation of getting the best out of his players, you’ve seen that with Jack White.” he continued.
“I think that was definitely a part of it, but also the people around you like CG (Chris Goulding), to have Delly (Matthew Dellavedova) as well, Shili (Shea Ili) as well, guys that you can learn so much from.
“I like to playmake, and obviously they’re pretty good shooters at the same time so everything just sort of worked out.”
The 200cm forward showcased some of this playmaking ability on Saturday night’s victory over Cal Baptist University, tallying seven assists to go with 11 points, six blocks, six rebounds and three steals.
While he did have five turnovers, Travers says he is thankful to have a coach like Vickerman, who is encouraging him to learn from his mistakes.
“He’s letting me make mistakes at the same time which is always helpful as well,” Travers said.
“To be able to have that sort of role was something that I was looking for and I’m still figuring it all out. It’s going to be a little bit of a process but come game one I think it’ll be pretty good.”
With excitement to see Travers take to the court for United’s opening game of the NBL24 season rising, the time is now to become a member and Bring The Blue.
With Premium, Gold and Silver full season memberships fully sold out, you’ll have to get in quick to secure your seat for every home game at John Cain Arena this season.
