Walker chasing perfection with United

Heading into another double-game weekend, United import guard Tyson Walker’s only focus is helping us build on our unbeaten 5-0 start to the season.
Speaking ahead of our first game of the round, a Friday night road battle against the Brisbane Bullets, Walker said he and his teammates are locked in on the pursuit of a perfect game.
“We don’t really think about the wins,” Walker explained.
“We just think about the stuff we did wrong and try to perfect those things and play a perfect game.
“We haven’t done that yet… We’re not focussing on how much we won by, just about how we won, and what to do to get better.”
Having won our past eight road games against the Bullets, we will be taking some significant momentum into the contest.
Looking at how the team has performed of late, Head Coach Dean Vickerman outlined his belief that selecting a clear identity has helped us to early success.
“I think once we selected a style of play, everyone’s really bought in to moving the basketball, faster decision making, and that’s allowed us to get to the line more than any other team,” Vickerman said.
“We wanted to be a really strong rebounding team and we’ve made improvements in that area.”
Having coached close to 400 games, Vickerman touched on what it’s been like to see Walker thrive from the very start of his tenure with United.
“You always wonder how long it will take people to adjust, being in a different country.
“I think he’s kind of observed everything, taken information in and been pretty unfazed by everything he’s encountered so far.
“I think his progress throughout the year is how far he can go in leading this team and having a significant impact at both ends. It’s going to be fun to watch.”
Following our Friday night game, which will be streamed live on ESPN, we are set to return home for The Multicultural Game on Sunday from 2:30pm.
A spectacular celebration of the diversity of Melbourne, the game is always one of the most anticipated contests of the season.
