With Melbourne United’s much anticipated return to full crowds at John Cain Arena less than one week away, here is why you should lock in your spot in the stands to cheer on the reigning champs.
Witness history in our home opener.
United’s first game at home this season will be a spectacular affair, as Melbourne will raise their NBL21 championship banner up into the rafters.
One of the sides United had to dispatch on their way to the title were cross-town rivals, the South East Melbourne Phoenix, who will have the honour of being the first team to play underneath the banner as part of Throwdown XIII.
This will also be the first opportunity for fans to give a warm welcome home to Victorian sporting legend Matthew Dellavedova, who will make his home debut after 13 years playing abroad.
With all this excitement set for the family-friendly time of 1pm on a Sunday, United’s first game back in JCA is a can’t-miss opportunity.

Battle of the bigs against the long-time rivals.
Only a few days removed from Melbourne’s first home game, the defending champs will host their second match-up against long-time rivals, the Sydney Kings.
After dropping their first game of the season, a close 79-74 loss to the Kings, the defending champs will be out for a measure of revenge in this Thursday night hoops showcase.
Without their two longest tenured players, Chris Goulding and David Barlow, Melbourne’s resilience was on full display in the two side’s first meeting, rallying back from 21 points behind to very nearly steal the victory in the dying seconds of action.
United’s bench stepped up in the contest, with Caleb Agada, David Okwera and Zac Triplett combining for 26 points and some important energy boosting plays.
Buoyed by a full house at John Cain Arena, as well as a hopefully healthy lineup, expect Melbourne to put together a tone-setting performance that will turn heads around the league.

Early Christmas present at John Cain Arena.
The perfect opportunity to get involved in Melbourne’s summer of sport, United will host the New Zealand Breakers on Sunday the 19th of December, their last home game for over a month.
This will be Melbourne’s final chance to wow their home fans before going on an extended road trip, and you can bet that the team won’t miss this opportunity.
Having beaten the Breakers in the NBL Blitz, United will be hoping to repeat its form from the preseason.
Captain Chris Goulding spoke last week about why John Cain Arena is “the best place to play”, and will be aiming to gift the Melbourne fans with an early Christmas present on Sunday afternoon.
