Goulding turning ‘junk’ into buckets says Barlow

David Barlow has the utmost respect for his former teammate, Chris Goulding.
Having played hundreds of games and won two championships together, Barlow is acutely aware of the sharpshooter’s ability to do the unthinkable on a basketball court.
Speaking to Andrew Gaze and Andy Maher, Barlow touched on what a ‘luxury’ it is to have a player like Goulding on your side.

“It gets brought up a lot, guys have been playing well of late and he’s one of those guys,” Barlow explained.
“It’s such a luxury on offence, you think ‘wow this possession is a piece of junk’ and then he gets the ball and makes a deep three or a wildly contested three and you say ‘thanks for bailing us out there’ and that’s been somewhat of a constant.

“But it’s the underrated parts of his game; the playmaking, the leadership, the intelligence, the commitment to the way we want to defend, all of those things make him really, really good.
“He’s a really good basketball player, an all-around basketball player, he’s incredibly efficient and he’s stepped up like crazy in the moments where we’ve needed him most.”
Goulding has been red hot to start the season, averaging his highest scoring output in 10 seasons, while knocking down 4.3 three-pointers per game at close to 40% shooting.
Goulding will hit the court this Sunday as part of United’s Member Appreciated Round against the Cairns Taipans from 2pm at John Cain Arena.
There’s still time to lock in your seat to Melbourne’s first three home games of December for a fraction of the price of walk up tickets, or become a part-season member to pick and choose which games you want to see across the remainder of the NBL24 season.
