Take a look at what stood out statistically from Round 8 right here

Welcome to STAT WRAP, Melbourne United’s weekly round-up of all the key stats from our games. Take a look below at who shined on the court, and the trends leading the way throughout the team.

This week, we will be taking a closer look at Chris Goulding’s historic game on Saturday evening against the Perth Wildcats.

GG46

United captain Chris Goulding set the Perth Wildcats on fire on Saturday, erupting for 46 points in 32 minutes, erasing a 19-point deficit in the process. Goulding’s 46 points is the equal-third most points ever scored since the NBL moved back to 40 minute games in the 2009-10 season, only trailing his own 50-point effort over 10 years prior. The elite marksman connected on nine three-pointers in the match-winning effort.

22 IN 4 MINUTES

Of those nine three-pointers, six found the bottom of the net in the span of four minutes in the third quarter.

Goulding went 6/7 on long-range attempts during this stretch, while adding in a pair of mid-range jumpers to bring his total up to 22 points in the period.

He ended the quarter with a left-handed, and-one finish over the top of a pair of Wildcats defenders, ultimately tallying 25 third-term points.

Goulding became the first player in NBL history to score 25 points while knocking down six three-pointers in a quarter.

AN EXCLUSIVE CLUB

Only one player in the modern 40-minute era of the NBL has ever scored more than 45 points twice: Chris Goulding.
