With a constant focus on excelling at the defensive end of the floor, Dean Vickerman couldn’t be more excited to be adding incoming import guard Tyson Walker to his already impressive rotation.
Walker, who won the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) Defensive Player of the Year award as a sophomore in college, will complete a trio featuring two-time reigning NBL Best Defensive Player, Shea Ili, and elite defensive NBA prospect, Dash Daniels, for NBL26.
Looking at what the three can produce on the defensive end, Vickerman believes opposing guards are going to be in for a long night whenever they face United.
“I think they’re going to terrorize people,” he said gleefully.
“It’s always great to have multiple players who can really get after ball handlers, and obviously Shea is the best in the league, but we think Tyson can be amazing in that area as well.
“Then we have Dash Daniels as a bigger body to throw in there as well, so the ability for that trio to change the game at times by really causing some havoc in the back court is exciting.”
Ili has long been considered the best guard defender in the NBL, while Daniels has excelled in the NBL1, averaging 1.8 steals per game under 25 minutes per game.
Walker led the CAA in steals per game (2.4) as a sophomore, and was top three in steals in his final year at Michigan State (1.9).
