Bowen convinced United has ‘got the pieces’ to win Throwdown clash

With so much on the line in our final regular season game on Thursday evening, Kyle Bowen remains confident in our ability to perform at the highest level when the stakes are high.

A pillar of consistency across his United career, Bowen has never missed a game with the club, and has played a significant role in both our recent trips to the Championship series.

Knowing what it takes to get to that point, Bowen believes this group has that ability within them.

“We've got the pieces in the locker room and we've seen what this team is capable of,” Bowen said.

“We’ve just got to put it together. I think with the playoffs, the big games, just all the ramifications of this Thursday night matchup, I think it's going to get the best from us. I think that's the type of team we are.”

Leading into an evening which will see the club celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the 2006 Melbourne Tigers Championship, Bowen got to pick the brain of Stephen Hoare, who came up with crucial plays in the team’s run to the title.

Looking to take some knowledge from Hoare into the contest, Bowen touched on the importance of confidence when it comes to performing in big moments.

“Just hearing from Steve and how much it meant to him and I think it's awesome that they're all getting together and celebrating a Championship, it's obviously the goal every year for us and (other) teams alike.

“Inspiring to hear his stories and perspectives of the up and down year that they had and you can obviously relate and compare to our season.

“He just said it was all about confidence for them and I think that's going to be a really big piece not only heading to Thursday but the playoff run that we've got coming up.”

Having watched the season closely, Hoare added that while our form has slipped of late, the team is more than capable of making a deep run through the postseason.

“I think they're a great team, they showed that at the start of the year,” Hoare said of United.

“For whatever reason it hasn't been gelling lately, but if it does, then they're as good a chance as anybody.

“So hopefully starting Thursday night, it does gel, it does work, and then they can steamroll through the finals.”
