Chance provides recruitment update from NBA Summer League

Melbourne United’s search for a trio of imports has continued to ramp up following the start of the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League.

With so much talent on display, Head Coach Jacob Chance said he’s taking his time to make sure he, along with other decision makers from the club, bring in the right people for the upcoming Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season.

Speaking from Summer League to the NBL's Brad Rosen, Chance outlined his desire to finalise a lineup that will properly honour the club’s supporters.

“I hope we’re putting together a program and team that the fans will be happy about… We’ll play a brand of basketball that reflects the people that come and support us every week,” Chance said.

“That’s priority one for us, trying to find a player that fits the values of our club, values of our team, and there’s a lot of those guys around, and then does it fit from a tactical standpoint on the floor is super important.”

Providing some more insight into the sort of players that could end up in the United blue next season, Chance flagged the need for scoring on the perimeter and a rim protector inside the paint.

“We need two perimeter players and a big, we’ve been pretty open about that. What those guys look like I think will change a little bit, we need someone who can score the ball and help us on that side of things, and maybe that other perimeter guy offsets that.

“Then it’s can we get a big to come in, whether that’s Jesse (Edwards) coming back or someone else to replace him who can really anchor our defence and really hold down that five-spot.

“I’m happy for him (Edwards) right now, he’s obviously here trying to get back into the NBA world. We’ll stay in touch with him, things move very quickly in this industry, contracts and European teams and Australian teams, everyone is trying to get stuff done, but we’ll certainly stay in discussions with him.”

Edwards, who is currently play in the Summer League for the Milwaukee Bucks, claimed United's club MVP in NBL26.
