Coming away from the NBL Blitz, one of the league’s revered coaches has praised our pair of debuting imports, Tyson Walker and Jesse Edwards.
Speaking on the No Flop Zone Podcast, three-time NBL Coach of the Year and 2007 NBL Champion, Joey Wright, spoke glowingly about what he saw from the duo across our two games in Canberra.
“(Tyson) Walker, ooooooh. If he’s that good… I’m going to pick Melbourne as my early (Championship) winner,” he exclaimed.
“Walker, I was blown away. He was in second gear, he didn’t even look like he was going. If he turned it on and just got aggressive, lord! He’d still get 20-something sleeping.
“You can give it to (Edwards) one-on-one on the block and he can get it done… they can throw it up, they can give it to him one-on-one on the block, and he’s going to block some shots at the other end.
"I really liked him.”
Having battled with Head Coach Dean Vickerman over much of their careers in the NBL, Wright believes the consistency and structure provided by his former adversary will once again put us in a strong position to compete for a Championship.
“Melbourne’s going to always be up there just because of Dean and what they do there.
“They’ve got great players as well but Dean organises that and makes sure those great players are there every year.”
