Edwards enabling United to be their best

Coming off our win at HoopsFest against the Tasmania JackJumpers, both Head Coach Dean Vickerman and star guard Milton Doyle have praised the effort of big man Jesse Edwards.

Edwards was instrumental in Saturday’s victory, tallying 21 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Speaking ahead of our next game, a Wednesday Ignite Cup clash in Bendigo against the Brisbane Bullets, Doyle said he believes an aggressive Edwards enables the club to perform at its highest level.

“When he’s playing at his best, like he did this past weekend with a double-double game and dominating inside the paint, in the post and on the defensive end, blocking shots, I think we’re one of the best teams in the league, if not the best team in the league,” Doyle explained.

“It makes my job easy to get some easy assists and pressure some guards up the court a little bit. It definitely makes all our jobs easier.”

Vickerman echoed these sentiments, adding “I think he's been one of the guys that we've just wanted to continue to improve his defensive stance, his activity and his positioning, and I think he took a big step in that game in how he helped everybody else, and then we're still able to get back to Magnay and challenge shots and protect the rim for us. 

“At the offensive end, he's got a lot of confidence right now and his ability to catch and finish at the rim. He draws a lot of fouls as well and is starting to shoot his free throws at a good clip.”

Edwards will look to continue his hot form in front of what looks likely to be a sold-out crowd in Bendigo on Wednesday.
