Across the offseason, Melbourne United’s coaching staff has voiced the want to play a faster brand of basketball in NBL26, and incoming big-man Jesse Edwards couldn't be happier about it.
The towering Dutch big-man spent his collegiate career throwing down big dunks and swatting shots, which he was able to emulate in the G-League.
Now, looking at his new teammates and the style of play we are set to showcase, Edwards is anticipating a lot of highlight plays this season.
“Playing fast) is obviously a big part of the way I’ve been playing basketball,” he said.
“Just protecting the rim, playing above the rim on offence, both of those things really cater to my game so to have those types of teammates that can highlight that, hopefully we’ll gel together really well.
“It’s kind of an ideal fit to see a lot of good blocks this year and a lot of good alley-oops.”
In each of the past two seasons, a United player has led the league in total dunks, with Jack White’s 44 topping the leaderboard in NBL25, and Ariel Hukporti and Luke Travers tied on 48 the season prior.
The only way to make sure you’ve got your seat to see if Edwards can continue our dominant dunking display is by becoming a Melbourne United Member! To find out more, click here.
