Dellavedova led the entire league in assists per game across NBL24

Coming into the season, much was made about what sort of impact Matthew Dellavedova would bring upon his return to Melbourne United.

Following a dominant NBL Blitz, Dellavedova continued this momentum, helping lead United to a league-best 20-8 record.

The NBA championship winner led the entire league in assists per game, while also upping his scoring and rebounding output from his first stint with Melbourne.

Such a pivotal piece to what the ladder-leaders are looking to achieve in the Finals, Chris Goulding spoke about Dellavedova’s impact on winning games.

“He has so many dimensions to his game,” he told Dwayne Russell on SEN.

“Throughout the year he’s kind of picked and chosen when he was going to be aggressive for himself offensively. He knows when he needs to get other guys involved, he knows how the other defence is defending him and us.

“It’s great to see him shoot the ball with confidence and shoot it well because there’s going to be times and opportunities for him to step in and knock down shots, and we look forward to him doing that and getting to the rim as well, showing his post-up game.

“Whatever is needed across the course of a game, he’s ready to reach in and pull it out of his trick bag.”

While it remains unclear who United will be facing in the Playoffs, Goulding, Dellavedova and co will come into the matchup full of confidence, having won their past seven games at John Cain Arena.
