Oduro, Chance, excited for first road trip

Prior to United’s first double-header of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season, Head Coach Jacob Chance and big-man Josh Oduro spoke on their approach to the games, specifically Thursday’s matchup against the Tasmania JackJumpers. 

Chance, coming off his first win as Head Coach, is excited to leverage that momentum into a road win in Hobart. 

“It's our first time jumping on a plane together and hanging out and going to dinner. Hobart's a beautiful place to visit,” Chance said. 

“We're all locked in on Tassie right now on Thursday night and that's going to present its own challenges with how they play and how good they are… it'll be a good game for us.

“[Tassie is] not too dissimilar to South East in a way [with] their full court disruption. We spoke about it going into those two games that we were going to get tested here with the physicality battle with South East followed by Tassie. [It’s] another great test for us on the road.”

Melbourne United are 5-5 in their last 10 games against the JackJumpers and will be looking to get the edge in the 11th.

Following his 21 point effort in Throwdown 33, Chance spoke on Oduro’s excellent play and development since coming over to Melbourne. 

“He's a great player, I think he really suits this league, he suits our team, he suits what we need. So he's only going to keep getting better. You know, that's the exciting part,” Chance explained.

Playing in his first interstate game in the NBL, Oduro is keen to head across the strait to show the Hobart crowd his relentless motor, and see Tasmania for the first time.

“I'm excited to go to Tassie, play against them, be on that island…I watched a documentary on [National Geographic] a while ago [about it], [but I’ve seen] nothing about basketball ,” Oduro said. 

United will next take the court as the away team against the Tasmania JackJumpers inside MyState Bank Arena Thursday October 1 from 7:30pm. Watch it live on ESPN or Disney+. 

Melbourne United will then return to John Cain Arena on Saturday 3 October to take on the Cairns Taipans. Tip-off is at 7:30pm, and tickets are still available here via AXS.
