Offseason Games Wrap: Machar’s return helps Sabres find form

After missing two rounds of action, Malith Machar made his return to the NBL1 at the weekend, helping lead the Sandringham Sabres to a pair of comfortable victories.

On Saturday he tallied 19 points and swatted two shots in a road win against Geelong, before following up the effort at home against Mt Gambier on Sunday, scoring 24 points.

Kyle Bowen was also instrumental in the two wins, averaging 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds across Round 5.

Christian D’Angelo enjoyed similar success to the Sabres pair, picking up back-to-back wins over Frankston and Diamond Valley to improve Nunawading’s record to a ladder-leading 7-2.

The hot-scoring guard put up 23 and 19 in the respective victories.

Unfortunately for Tanner Krebs (19 points, eight rebounds, four steals) and Tom Wilson (16 points, five assists), they couldn’t extend their team’s winning streaks, as Casey went down to Eltham and Melbourne fell to Knox.

In the East Conference, Fabijan Krslovic (11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks) helped Norths bounce back, dominating the Hills Hornets in a 30-point win.

Overseas, Sam Waardenburg split his two games in Puerto Rico. The versatile forward registered a double-double in each result.
