Melbourne United is pleased to announce that Malith Machar is set to return to the team for the NBL27 season.
Coming off a campaign which saw him take to the court in 24 games, Machar has continued to grow as a dangerous offensive player and a talented defender.
Standing 203cm tall with elite athleticism, the 26-year-old has the versatility to play multiple positions depending on the teammates surrounding him.
Machar touched on his anticipation for next season and outlined his goals with the team.
“I’m really excited for next season,” Machar said.
“Last year was good for me, I just gained a lot of confidence. I got to a point where I really felt like I belonged and could help us win at the NBL level.
“As a guy that comes off the bench, you're always hungry to contribute to a team's win. My goal was always just to do whatever I can to help the team win. You can't be shy when your time comes and you’re put on the court, so I wanted to be aggressive.”
Machar is currently playing in the NBL1 South for the Sandringham Sabres, where he has averaged 20.8 points per game while shooting 45.5% from beyond the arc. The Sabres have registered a 7-2 record with Machar on the court.
Having coached Machar across the past few seasons, Assistant Coach Rhys Carter outlined his belief that the wing is ready to contribute to winning basketball at the NBL level.
“He's made massive gains in his strength and physicality from when he first came to us,” Carter explained.
“He’s put on weight, put on strength, and then has become much more confident with the speed of the game at the NBL level.
“He’s been elite in the NBL1 level for a number of years and that’s been the same so far this season.”
Machar joins Joe Ingles, Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Sam Waardenburg, Fabijan Krslovic, Kyle Bowen and Dash Daniels as rostered players for NBL27.
