Offseason Games Wrap: Wilson, D’Angelo, Machar claim NBL1 South honours

A trio of Melbourne United’s NBL26 roster have been recognised at the NBL1 South Awards evening over the weekend.

Christian D’Angelo and Tom Wilson were both named to the conference’s 1st Team, while Malith Machar was named to the 2nd Team.

Following the final round of the regular season, all three of them, along with Kyle Bowen, progressed into the finals.

Machar, Bowen and the Sandringham Sabres had the largest win of the round, playing a supportive role to former United guard Kyle Adnam, who shattered the NBL1 scoring record by dropping 70 in a 130-80 victory over the Northern Force.

The Sabres will face off against Kilsyth in an Elimination Final on August 1.

D’Angelo and Wilson each had quieter contests, with their sides already locked into the postseason.

Despite a losing effort against Ballarat, D’Angelo and the Nunawading Spectres will match up against Keilor in a Qualifying Final, while Wilson and the Melbourne Tigers’ opponent is yet to be decided following their win over Eltham.

In the East, Fabijan Krslovic (15 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals) and the Norths Bears dropped their final game of the regular season by a single point to the Sutherland Sharks.

Regardless, the Bears finished with the best record in the conference and will enjoy a bye across the first week of the postseason.
