Tom Wilson re-signs with United for NBL27

Melbourne United is excited to announce that Tom Wilson has re-signed with the team for the NBL27 season.

Following a successful campaign which saw the 29-year-old return to professional basketball for the first time since 2019, Wilson is poised to continue his growth as a scoring threat at the guard position.

In NBL26, Wilson appeared in 27 contests for United, scoring a career best 12 points off the bench in Round 2 against the New Zealand Breakers.

Looking to build on his return to the league last season, Wilson said he can’t wait to get back on the court alongside the rest of United’s stars.

“It's super exciting. I obviously loved my time last year, and that's why I was excited to come back, hopefully build on what I was able to do, and establish myself further in the team,” Wilson said.

“Coming in, the focus is just to be a good teammate, first and foremost, and then just seeing where I can bring my strengths to the table. 

“I feel like I’ve grown massively after a year within this program, hopefully the proof will be in the pudding when we start playing games.

“I think last year I learned a lot, just dealing with the ebbs and flows of the season, so I take some confidence out of that and hopefully we can hit the ground running.”

Across the offseason, Wilson has been dominating in the NBL1 South with the Melbourne Tigers, averaging 21.5 points, 5.2 assists and 5 rebounds per game, while leading his side to a league-best 17-5 record.

Looking at what he was able to produce over the last 12 months, Head Coach Jacob Chance believes Wilson is capable of providing a spark whenever he’s injected into the game.

“Tommy is a guy I’m really excited to work with this season,” said Chance.

“I got to spend some time with him before heading to Austin last year, and his work ethic and want to get better coming back to basketball after his time in the AFL system was remarkable.

“From everything I saw last season with United and in the NBL1, he’s continued to improve. He’s a microwave scorer, someone who can get buckets quickly when thrown into the game.

“His day-to-day work ethic is elite, as is his leadership behind the scenes. He’s a great person to have rounding out the local core of the roster.”

Wilson joins Kyle Bowen, Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Joe Ingles, Fabijan Krslovic, Sean Macdonald (NRP), Malith Machar, Josh Oduro, Luke Travers and Sam Waardenburg as well as Development Players Jensen Bradtke and Christian D’Angelo.
