Melbourne United is ecstatic to announce that three-time champion, 2017-18 Finals MVP and club Captain Chris Goulding, has extended his contract with the club for a further two seasons.

United’s all-time leader in games played (209), points (3342), three-pointers (675), assists (496) and steals (158), Goulding’s extension will keep him with Melbourne until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Speaking about the decision, CG43 said he couldn’t say no to the opportunity to remain with the team he has won a pair of championships with.

“It’s exciting for me, it’s exciting for my family, and hopefully the club and fans are excited as well,” he said.

“Melbourne is my home, and Melbourne United has been a big part of that. Being captain of the club and having successes within that role with two championships, it’s built a really special place in my heart.”

The quest to bring more silverware to Melbourne continues to drive Goulding, and played a large role in his decision to remain with last year’s minor premiers.

“That’s a big part of it, we are a club that strives for success and the ultimate success is winning championships, so that’s what I want to do for those next two years.”

Equally excited to continue contending for championships alongside CG is Head Coach Dean Vickerman, who has worked alongside the sharpshooter since 2017.

Vickerman said the announcement is a huge moment for both Goulding and the club.

“It’s amazingly exciting for the club to have our captain re-sign for a couple more years,” he continued.

“He embodies the values of our club, he drives everyone to be better every day. When anyone thinks of Melbourne United, he’s the first person they think of.

“We want to continue building his legacy and I’m so pleased that we’ve got him locked in so fans can keep rocking his jersey and cheering along with him on every three.”
