Ingles, Anthony excited to “have some fun” on opening night

Ahead of their opening night clash against the Adelaide 36ers at John Cain this Saturday, star duo Cole Anthony and Joe Ingles expressed their comfort adjusting to the NBL’s game style, whilst breaking down their extensive basketball history together.

“We’ll probably be talking mess to each other while we’re out there. We go out there, put on a nice performance and give the fans what they want to see and win some games,” Anthony told ESPN basketball insider Olgun Uluc in their sit-down chat.

“We’re gonna work hard, we’re gonna win games, we’re gonna do all that, but we’re gonna have fun,” Ingles added.

With a combined 18 years of NBA experience, Ingles and Anthony are two of the most experienced hoopers in the NBL, but coming to United, they’ll be playing a different role, a prospect that both are excited to take on.

“At the end of the day it's very similar, offensively (and) defensively. You want to be spaced, you want to be in the right position,” Ingles said.

Coming off six years in the NBA, for one of which he shared the court with Ingles, Anthony had this to say about how their games will adapt to the differing rules and style of the NBL.

“If I just go out there and play the game the way I’ve played the game in the past, (then) I’m not really worried. Score, pass, rebound, a little bit of guarding here and there,” Anthony explained.

“I’ve always felt like I’m someone who can do it all on the court. Something I’ve done very recently where I feel like I can take over games. If I do that, I’ll be alright. It’s not something I’m stressing about per se. 

“Playing in the NBA for 12 years, that’s what his (Ingles) game is, he’s a super high IQ player who just knows how to play (and) has a great feel. He understands the game and he’s always been, ever since we were teammates in Orlando, someone who’s been honest with me and I trust and value his opinion.”
