Ingles only motivated by winning with United

Set to suit up in the NBL for the first time since winning a Championship with the South Dragons in 2009, Australian hoops legend Joe Ingles has only winning on his mind.

Having touched down back in Melbourne with his family, Ingles is wasting no time getting back in game-shape as he prepares to help lead a United lineup looking to contend for another title in NBL27.

Speaking to the media face-to-face for the first time at Melbourne United’s home of Hoop City Cheltenham, Ingles dismissed the notion that he will be motivated by anything other than winning every time he steps on the court.

“I'm past the point of proving myself, I don't really care what you guys (the media) think, to be honest,” he said. 

“I’ve been lucky enough to play in the best league in the world for the last 12 years. If I sat there worrying about what people were saying all the time or proving X, Y, and Z to people, I probably would have been done a little while ago. 

“Obviously, the motivation as an athlete, as a player is there, and that was the biggest part of when these kinds of discussions come. I want to play, I want to compete, and I want to win.

“The last time I played in this league I left with a championship in my last game and the goal for the next two years is to win.”

Ingles, as well as new recruit Sam Waardenburg, will continue to work with the team across the remainder of the offseason in preparation for the start of NBL27.
