Malith Machar has put together a spectacular weekend of games in the NBL1 South, helping lead the Sandringham Sabres to consecutive wins.
Across Round 8, Machar knocked down 10 three-pointers, four of which came on Saturday evening against Christian D’Angelo (29 points) and the Nunawading Spectres.
The athletic wing finished with 26 points, while teammates Shea Ili (20 points) and Kyle Bowen (15 points, nine rebounds) each played pivotal roles in the 10-point road victory.
For Nunawading, the loss dropped the team into third on the ladder.
Machar, Bowen and the Sabres backed up this performance with a 46-point demolition of the Kilsyth Cobras the following afternoon.
Five first-quarter three-balls from Machar (24 points) put Sandringham in a position they wouldn’t relinquish, thanks also to a near triple-double from Bowen (17 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists).
The back-to-back victories lifted the Sabres into seventh on the ladder.
Still sitting on top of the table are the Melbourne Tigers, led by Tom Wilson (21 points), who also took down Kilsyth at the weekend.
The Tigers have won four straight games and lead the conference with a 9-2 record.
In the East, Fabijan Krslovic (eight rebounds, two steals) and the Norths Bears lost just their second game of the season, falling to the first-place CoE.
Internationally, Sam Waardenburg (three points, four assists) had a quiet outing as his
Indios de Mayaguez went down by 14 points.
