Chance ‘really happy’ with team's NBL Blitz performances

Having returned from the CODE Sports NBL Blitz in Bendigo in possession of the Loggins-Bruton Cup following a pair of wins over Perth and Illawarra, Head Coach Jacob Chance broke down his feelings on his team’s performances.

Speaking after practice on Tuesday afternoon, Chance said while there is still work to do, he is happy with how the team is leaning into its identity ahead of Round 1 of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season.

“Overall, really happy,” Chance said.

“Just from an identity standpoint we've been doing a lot of work here… (with) guys coming in at different times, it's always a challenge with the NBL schedule. 

“I've loved how we've kind of laid it out and introduced guys and rehashed things. We were really impressive at the rim with our defense as a collective. I think we led the blitz in O-board percentage and some key areas that we're really trying to emphasize, and to come away with two good wins as a result was great, but I was more happy with the intent and the process that led to that.”

With one final preseason game set for Thursday evening at MSAC against the New Zealand Breakers, Chance’s group will get one last opportunity to match up with some NBL competition ahead of Round 1.

Looking at Thursday’s game, star shooter Chris Goulding says the hit out is a great opportunity to get extra reps in.

“We need reps and we need reps with as many players that are available that are going to play come opening night,’ Goulding said.

“We're still feeling each other out… There's still sort of lulls in the game where we're kind of looking around and figuring out where the ball is going to go or what we're going to run in that situation. 

“It's the relationships with each other that you've got to build and develop. So (this game gives us) a little more of that.”
