Following the best scoring game of his NBL career, Tanner Krebs only had one thing on his mind; getting back in the winners column.
While we went down to start Round 11 on the road in Perth, we remain on top of the competition table with a 13-3 record heading into a huge Throwdown clash with the South East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.
Krebs, fresh off an ultra-efficient 29-point outing on Thursday night, said he isn’t concerned about his personal scoring numbers, rather simply locked in on contributing to winning basketball.
“At the end of the day it’s the team result that matters,” he said in the post-match press conference.
“I could care less about what I do or how I play, I’m just trying to contribute to winning, and if that doesn't get (us) wins, it’s not good enough.
“At the end of the day, my role is to come in and bring effort and intensity off the bench.
“Whether that comes with scoring but most of all I think what I do on the defensive end is most important.
“I don’t expect to have nights like this on a regular basis but if I can contribute to winning with effort plays… Then I would be really satisfied.”
The sharpshooting wing was near unstoppable in the first half, tallying 25 points on 10/11 shooting from the field, including 4/4 from deep.
Currently in the midst of the most efficient and highest-scoring season of his career, Krebs attributed his form to extra reps in the offseason, while also making the most of the opportunities presented within our offence.
“I’ve had two really good offseasons where I’ve been healthy and able to put in a good amount of work, and with reps comes confidence.
“I feel like a lot of my scoring came out of our offence. I wasn’t necessarily forcing anything, I felt like a lot of my baskets kind of came out of transition or just the flow of our offence.
“I didn’t necessarily “go and get it”, I just felt like I was able to get free and get good looks.”
United fans will get their next chance to see Krebs on the floor when the team takes on the SEM Phoenix in Throwdown 31 on Sunday from 2:30pm.
The game will be aired live on ESPN and Channel 10 from 2:30pm.
