‘Hard work’ lifted Blogg towards contract

For newly signed Development Player Campbell Blogg, getting to where he is currently was guided by one thing: hard work.

Over the course of his junior career, Sandringham Sabres product worked tirelessly to improve his game, honing his craft to eventually lead to a Youth League MVP and NBL1 call-up in 2022.

There was no resting for the youngster following this, as he joined Melbourne United as a training player for the NBL23 season.

The commitment meant Blogg worked alongside United’s stars, taking the court in practices every day and operating like a part of the regular lineup, despite knowing he would be unable to actually take the court for an NBL game.

The process, while at times frustrating, proved vital for the sharpshooting guard.

“It was hard at times putting in all that work without being able to actually suit up,” he said.

“But all that work has made me a much better player, it’s played a huge role in getting me to this contract.”

Perhaps overlooked at times in his junior career, Blogg implored other young players to always put in the extra effort and not be dissuaded if things don’t appear to be going their way.

“As a junior at Sandy (Sandringham), you always dream about playing professionally,” he continued.

“You look at the NBL as something to be held up on a pedestal, but now that I’m here, it was all just hard work.

“All I can say to kids playing at Sandy or other junior competitions is that it’s always possible. I didn’t make any state teams, I just kept working hard through all my junior teams up through Youth League and now NBL1.”
