How ‘underdog’ Blogg broke through

Everybody loves an underdog story.

Someone that overcomes adversity, pushes through the challenges in their way and enjoys success.

That in many ways is the story of Melbourne United Development Player (DP) Campbell Blogg. 

The sharpshooter out of Sandringham has worked tirelessly to put himself in a position where he can hopefully help United achieve their ultimate goals in NBL24.

Sitting one win away from an NBL1 South Championship game berth with the Sabres, Blogg, who was named team captain at just 19 years of game, is playing under MU Assistant Coach Rhys Carter, who outlined the young star’s journey and attitude on The Extra Pass.

“He’s just a worker,” Carter said. 

“He didn’t make state teams, at Sandringham he was in the Under-18 2s, he wasn’t a big recruit, he was going to go to a small junior college in the middle of North Dakota… we talked him into staying and training with us because we loved what he was doing.

“He’s kept that attitude of the underdog, hard worker. He’s going to grind it out but his skill package is really great.”

Blogg joined United’s group across the entirety of NBL23 as an unpaid training player, working on his game and going against the highest level competition to grow his game.

“He put himself in this building, he wasn’t contracted with us, he just turned up every day,” Carter explained.

“He worked at a pizza shop in the afternoons and nights to get by and has put himself in a position where he has got a full Development contract and is on our roster.”
