Across his first three seasons with Melbourne United, Kyle Bowen has been the model of consistency.
Known for his hustle and determination, Bowen has carved out a role as a solid rebounder and defender used frequently to slow down opposing forwards.
Heading into NBL27, the forward is focussed on continuing to build strength through his body, while sharpening his offensive skillset.
“This offseason has really been about continuing to develop my body while working on physicality and athleticism,” Bowen said.
“I think playing against the fours around the league, it’s going to be really important for me and be in the best shape of my life.
“That means continuing to work in the weight room with our strength staff and then playing with aggression and adding variety to my offensive package.
“My role is to be able to glue things together, connect the floor, thrive in pace and space. Obviously there are a lot of moving pieces around the team, and it’s a new opportunity for me at the club.
“I’m going to make sure I’m ready for whatever comes and figuring out my role and being ready to succeed in it.”
Alongside United teammates Shea Ili and Malith Machar, Bowen has been thriving with the Sandringham Sabres in the NBL1 South this offseason.
Across 13 games, he has filled the stat-sheet, averaging 15.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
“Sandringham has been great in empowering me to pick my moments off the dribble and continuing to encourage me to shoot the ball, so it’s working on those things but also still having fun on the court,” Bowen continued.
“I think when I have fun and enjoy playing basketball, enjoying being with the team, that's when I’m playing my best and flourishing in my role.”
