Chance lays out import wish-list ahead of NBA Summer League

Already possessing one of the best local cores in the NBL, new Head Coach Jacob Chance has highlighted the importance of bringing in an elite trio of imports to complement his stars from Australia and New Zealand.
Over the next few weeks, Chance, who is already in the United States helping the San Antonio Spurs prepare for their Summer League, will join with club officials as they evaluate potential imports at the showcase event.
Looking at the pieces he already has in the lineup, Chance emphasised the importance of bringing in the right people to elevate United back into title contention in NBL27.
“I think if you look back over the history of the NBL and certainly the 11 years I've been involved or been around, nailing your imports is really important… Ultimately from a character standpoint and how they fit and support the skill set of your locals,” he explained.
“I think it can make or break a team's year and I would argue that most teams would agree, so this is a really important time for us.
“I think the most important thing is being really honest with what you have. Sometimes you can get carried away and maybe you don't quite nail your strengths and the areas of weakness or the areas of support that you need to get, but I think we've got a really clear picture.
“We probably just need a couple of guards to come in and really support us and carry that scoring load a little bit, just to help drive (scoring) on a night-to-night basis when you're playing Kendric (Davis) and Bryce (Cotton) and all the great guards in our league.
“Then we got to go and get a big to sit next to Sammy (Waardenburg) and really support the front line.
“It’s a huge moment for us these next couple of weeks to see if we can get that done, but I think we're in a great spot from a local standpoint and they'll support that nicely.”
Following Summer League, Chance will touch down in Melbourne to join his players and assistant coaches as they continue to put in the work across the offseason.
