‘We play to win Championships’ says Goulding ahead of Round 1

With just over 48 hours remaining until Melbourne United face off against the Adelaide 36ers in the opening game of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season, the team’s captain and coach have outlined the club’s goals for the upcoming campaign.

Having been named the side’s captain yesterday, Goulding is confident in the direction the team is headed.

“I think there's a new energy around the club,” said Goulding as he heads into his 12th season with United.

“Massive changes in the off-season (to) personnel, on-court, off-court, coaches, so there's a renewed energy.

“Everything's going really well at the moment, but, you know, it all starts to get a bit more

important on Saturday night and it's where we'll test all the things we've been working on for the past six or seven weeks and I'm excited to get in the weeds.

“It's not always going to be beautiful and magnificent; I hope it is more times than not but that's when you find out about each other and you build trust, and hopefully we'll see in a few weeks time the new direction that this program's taken. 

“We play to win Championships. I know they don't happen every year. They're pretty scarce. They're hard to come by. There's no point putting a team together if you don't want to try and win it.” 

For Chance, the focus is firmly on getting the process correct in order to pave the way for a successful season.

Speaking after an intense practice session on Thursday, Chance talked about the team’s ambitions, and how they are progressing in the lead up to Round 1.

“We're going to be in it to win it every year and we want people with big ambitions and we're a club with big ambitions. 

“So we have big goals. We put them out to the world. If we don't get a Championship done it won't be the end of the world, but that's what we're striving for. 

“What you hold yourself accountable to is how you go about that every day and today was another good example where we're stepping in the right direction.”
