Delany looking for ‘inspired effort’ come Thursday evening

We will have our next opportunity to end our current losing streak on Thursday evening when the Illawarra Hawks travel to John Cain Arena.

Speaking prior to the contest, Finn Delany, who is coming off a round where he averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game, broke down the sort of effort it’s going to take to secure a victory.

“You know, whenever you have a string of losses, we've all been here before, it takes an inspired effort to get out of it,” Delany said.

“We need to be ourselves, a really good version of it, and come out with an inspired energy and effort to get a win in front of our home crowd.”

This effort was on full display at our practice on Tuesday, with Head Coach Dean Vickerman explaining what he saw in the session.

“Yeah, (it was) competitive,” Vickerman elaborated.

“This is our main session for the week, and some of our leaders challenged the group about the type of session that we wanted to get today, and I think the outcome of it was positive.

“(There were) good learning experiences, but a defensive intensity that allowed us to get better.

“We know we have made really good improvements from our first two losses to the overtime losses with our defence and that gave us opportunities to win both games.

“We obviously spent a little bit of time on our spacing and end-game execution so we can handle those moments a little bit better.”

Melbourne United will host the Illawarra Hawks from 7:30pm on Thursday night. Tickets remain available here.
